The Middle Atlantic Corporation was established in 1912 and is an athletic conference that takes part in the NCAA Division III. This corporation is divided into 3 conferences, namely, the Freedom Conference, the Commonwealth Conference and the Middle Atlantic Conference. The 16 members that form this corporation are based out of the Middle Atlantic States. This association is furthering collegiate sports in the United States since its inception in 1912 with 13 members. This association continued to grow in its strength housing over fifty teams at one time. However, following the formation of the NVAA Division I,II and III in 1974, the league decreased its size.
The member team participate in 11 mens and 11 womens sports categories including basketball, baseball, hockey, indoor and outdoor track and field, cross country, football, golf, lacrosse, swimming and tennis. They have included softball, field hockey and volleyball in the womens categories.
